Activision Blizzard, the gaming giant behind the World of Warcraft juggernaut franchises and is making a big game of Esports WoTLK Gold. The company has announced the establishment of a brand new division devoted to gaming competitively. Not only that, Activision has hired top professionals to oversee the division. The former ESPN as well as NFL Network president Steve Bornstein will be the chairman of the division, and Major League Gaming co-founder and president Mike Sepso has left that company to become Senior Vice President for the new gaming division.
Activision hasn't yet revealed what the exact reason for its new esports division however, it is clear that the aim is "deliver the best player experience across games, geographical regions and platforms, as well as advancing the growth of its esports community."
For the time frame at which Activision could provide more details, Activision told P2Pah that BlizzCon and the Activision investor day conference that will precede the event in November the two likely locations. However, in the course of an interview on P2Pah, Sepso provided some additional context regarding the announcement and the significance of it.
Activision already has a vast collection of Esports-related initiatives, including competitions in StarCraft, World of Warcraft, Heroes of the Storm as well as World of Warcraft.
