All games start with your starting city right next to a gold mine

There are a number of differences between the factions you are going to want to be aware of, too. Orcs and Humans are functionally the same, with WOW TBC Classic Gold workers manually chopping trees down and disappearing into gold mines to collect stone, then walking back the resources to your Hall construction. Therefore, you'll want Halls as near gold mines as possible. If, for any reason, you have to construct one further than the minimal space, you will need over the five employees to compensate for the missing time.

Night Elf employees, called Wisps, want to Entangle a Gold Mine to collect from it, that takes 60 minutes. Once built, Wisps could be'loaded' into the mine, gathering gold without needing to move. Being the ecological sort, they also don't destroy trees while collecting lumber, similar to the other factions. Pop a wisp on a tree, and it is going to float around gathering lumber for the remainder of the match.

The Undead also have a special gold arrangement -- a Haunted Gold Mine. Much like Night Elf Wisps, Undead Acolytes remain on the mine and gather automatically. In 100 seconds, construction one is slower than the Entangled Gold Mine, but Undead Acolytes don't need to stay around in one place to build, instead summoning a portal that brings their structures into existence. When the portal is summoned, they're free to start other tasks.

Undead also differ in the other factions because they will need to use their simplest combat unit -- Ghouls -- to collect lumber. The trade-off is that Ghouls collect 20 lumber per delivery instead of the Human and Orc's 10, and the Night Elves' 5. They're also much more defensible, should your opponent target your workers.

Night Elf or Undead players will discover their beginning mine prepared to use, will not need to be worried about Haunting or even Entangling right away, before,the first Gold Mine collapses. That is right, Gold Mines do not last forever, so you'll be seeking to expand quickly into the early mid-game. Find a second gold mine early, and begin planning to clear the area and expand to another base. You also need to watch for your opponent's expansions. If you have got two gold mines, and they've just got one, you're going to be at a serious advantage.

To find out where your competitors are expanding too, though, you will need to spend a while on recon. Sending a beginning worker out to explore the map is a common tactic, but make sure you replace them quickly to avoid losing out on prized early game resources. Finding out early what sort of force your opponents are constructing permits to construct an effective counter force.
