The NBA 2K League has announced a new process for tryouts for their next season. The next season will begin in 2021. The new format will comprise more than 35 Pro-Am tournaments, which will be hosted by NBA 2K League teams, and the winners will be showcased as part of a League-hosted "NBA 2K League Draft Prospect Series" and a unique NBA 2K League Combine.
This is the next phase of the NBA 2K League’s rapid expansion. Brendan Donohue (Managing Director of the NBA 2K League) described the new league to me on an audio call as "transformational".
This season, the third season of the NBA 2K League season, saw a significant increase in broadcast distribution and audience. "Just looking apples to apples only our broadcasts on Twitch is growing by more than 70% from year to year," Donohue outlines, "and after the fact that we have added multiple distributors from around the world, including ESPN 2." Live games were broadcast on ESPN2 and ESPN's digital platforms, Sportsnet in Canada and delayed on eGG Network in Southeast Asia and Loco in India which was the first time broadcasts of 2K League games on linear television.
ESPN2 has been able to provide 29 nights worth of live broadcasts throughout the season. Each NBA 2K League match aired live on ESPN2's platforms in the Caribbean, Latin America and Oceania. By combining Twitch viewers with the special audience of Cheap NBA 2K22 MT PS4 ESPN2 and ESPN2, the NBA 2K League received at most one million unique viewers each time it was broadcast on ESPN2.
