Runescape publisher Jagex's publishing arm has picked up a promising indie title for its Jagex Partners brand, which makes Melvor Idle an independent not anymore. The idler game, similar to games like Clicker Heroes or Idle Champions of the Forgotten Realms, was released on Steam earlier this year. It also wears its roots from Jagex's flagship game RS Gold with pride.
Melvor Idle is a detailed multi-track idle game that strives to reinvent "the core components from the RuneScape franchise in a way that they could be enjoyed without a lot of effort," says the publisher. It's a very feature-rich idle game, one which has plenty of different things to make and grow, aswell in a focus on no prestige mechanics requiring a game restart.
Jagex evidently became aware of the project in early 2020. It is believed that a significant portion of the publisher's staff were enthusiastic about it following the debut Steam launch in October of that year. As it is obvious that the developer is content to work with the designers of one of their most loved games. "Being being able to work directly in conjunction with Jagex directly on this project has been a dream realized," said Brendan Malcolm who is the sole developer who is behind Melvor Idle studio Games by Malcs.
Malcolm posted a long QA with gamers on the Reddit community, making clear that he'd maintain full creative control throughout the next few months while also stating that the game's single-purchase system of monetization won't change. Jagex, he said, did not have "no desire" to change anything related to Melvor Idle. The publishing agreement will be a combination of Jagex as the sole provider of marketing, localisation, tech support, and QA for Melvor Idle.
