According to Wowhead, the team of Tommysalami and Tactics achieved the world-first test, achieving the level 60 after 76 hours using a paladin and rogue duo buy WoTLK Gold. The team relied on an add-on for leveling guides called RestedXP the two players have worked on and played with, to complete their mission.
"Hardcore WoW is a game with a community-driven playstyle where players try to find out how far they're able to achieve without dying. This often times also means not using things such as auction houses in the game, or obtaining assistance from non-hardcore players. If you die while playing a hardcore character is committing to never ever again play the character that was killed.
WoW Classic Season of Mastery has some additional features for hardcore-style play in official mode in the very first instance in that players can chat with an NPC for the "Soul of Iron" buff that indicates that the player has yet died.
