Ships will pursue you across zones, reinforcements will arrive mid-battle, and key ports may refuse you services. Suddenly, the sea feels a lot smaller and a lot more dangerous.

But the chaos doesn’t end there. Hostility also impacts your broader gameplay strategy. At critical levels, you lose access to faction missions, trade opportunities, and potentially lucrative upgrades. The longer you stay on a faction’s bad side, the more isolated and vulnerable you become. It’s not just about surviving encounters — it’s about surviving the long-term consequences.

Still, the hostility system isn’t entirely punitive. There’s nuance. If you keep your actions calculated, you can walk the line between tension and full-on conflict — exploiting factions without pushing them too far.
