Players have high expectations for the MMO New World of Amazon games. MMO fans are looking for fresh experiences in a unique environment, and Amazon is looking for success to make up for Crucible's failure.
In fact, the development of New World has not been smooth sailing. After the initial exposure, due to criticism of the game’s handling of colonialism, Amazon Games had to redesign the settings. New World has also faced multiple delays, presumably because COVID-19 has slowed down development.
However, it is not all bad news. Amazon Games has been making good use of the extra development time, conducting extensive game testing and improving the battle system in New World. It is safe to say that it has made up for the difficult start, and players are counting down until the August 31 release date.
Amazon needs this game to succeed, which begs the question: On which platforms will it run? For most large online games, such as Genshin Impact, the best strategy is often to put the game on as many platforms as possible. But New World only has a PC release date. Are there any plans to bring the game to consoles, such as Xbox One or Xbox Series X/S?
Amazon Games currently has no plans to port New World to other platforms. For stability and graphic fidelity, the studio seems to only focus on PC building.
If the game is eventually ported to a console, Xbox is a safe platform choice. The game can already be run on a Microsoft PC, so it may be easier to port on Xbox compared to other game consoles. Xbox’s Phil Spencer is also using Xbox Game Pass to push cloud games. The xCloud system may be able to solve Amazon’s hardware worries.
Nonetheless, given how Amazon is cooperating with Amazon Luna to develop its own game streaming service, the company may not want to offer major games like New World to competitors, even if it improves the chances of game success.
Whether New World will be transplanted is still up in the air. Players should expect the exclusivity of the PC when the game is released, and the developers are working hard to solve the 1.0 version of the problem. After that, this is anyone's guess.
