Examining their score. Their suspicion meter should be set at zero. However, it is possible. If their suspicion meter is at 1, they are most likely an easily-tricked human. The reading of their suspicion meter is 2, which could indicate they could be bots. If the suspicion meter reads 3, they're likely to be afk or are public off, but could very well be an actual bot. If their suspicion meters are at 4, they may be an automated system. But, there's not enough evidence to prove otherwise.

If their suspicion meter is at 6 through 10 They are at a high risk of botting, but it is recommended not to jump to conclusions at this point. If their suspicion score is higher than 11 it is likely that they are to be a bot.

What do you do if they're a bot? First, you should report them. Don't forget to avoid them until they sign off. It is unlikely that they will forget this if they begin talking. To keep them from becoming confused, shut any doors and gates that are closed when they travel through them. Drop junk items onto the squares that they click. This will reduce their speed and allow them to bank more often.

You should wear the same color as the ore they are mining or the flax or trees they harvest. Try and lure them into a dangerous area, or otherwise away from you. Modern bots don't have this kind of ability, and this method isn't always effective.

Marker seeds can be sown on the squares that they click. A few macros out there will have a set pattern for clicking, and if they encounter obstacles, it might impede them by a couple of pixels... enough to cause them to click in all the wrong spots. Position your pet's or summoning familiar near areas they are clicking on, such as flax. This will confuse them or, at the very least, stop them taking that item.
