How To Get Rare Fish In New World

This guide helps you find all the rare fish in Amazon's new MMO.

As with many MMOs, New World has a fishing mechanic that requires input from the player to catch fish. In addition, there are many different fish types in New World, and many of them have unique items that you can acquire only from fishing them.

It takes a lot of work to catch rare fish. You may be asked to catch certain types of fish in the quest. So this guide will tell you how to get rare fish in New World.

Fishing Hotspot

Fishing hotspots are indicated by a fish icon next to the star on the map or compass. When you get to these places, find out where the fish are jumping out of the water. The game will prompt you when the lure hits the area where the fish is jumping, and you also have a much greater chance of catching a rare fish.

The rare hotspots are fishing nodes with better chances of obtaining uncommon, rare, and legendary fish. They have less fish count than the broad hotspots, but the fishes found a higher rarity.

Use Better Fishing Poles

The Wooden Fishing Pole is only meant to be a starter tool and should be leveled up as soon as you can. You can level up your fishing pole by crafting an upgraded one or using new world coins to buy a better one from the trading post. Upgrading your tools, adding buffs, and optimizing your gear will help level up your fishing skill faster.

Perks can be added to your fishing pole by using a specific item or by adding Azoth to your rod. There are 11 different fishing perks, and each of those perks has three tiers that give bigger boosts the higher the tier.

Always Have the Best Baits

Fishing bait can be applied to your fishing rod to increase the biting speed or increase the rarity of the fish. Bait drops from certain enemies can be gathered by harvesting or crafted using the Cooking skill.

When it comes to saltwater, you want to use Glowworm Bait or Electric Eel Bait. The first can be found by collecting Flints during nighttime, the second by salvaging fished Eels — however, freshwater fishes like different kinds of bait. So, to fish effectively in freshwater, you need to have Firefly bait — which can come from Bulrush Plants or Briar Plants — or Oyster Bait — which you get by salvaging fished Oysters. Alternatively, you can always buy the bait you need in case you don’t feel like going out and collecting them. Chances are, you can even make some NW Coins by selling the Fish Filet you get from all fish that wasn’t rare, then use that money to buy more bait.

Truth to be told, you can find rare fish almost anywhere that has a body of water, as long as you can fish there. Since getting rare fish is mostly a matter of how than where, by following our tips, you should increase your chances of getting them.
