I think that the game industry as a whole has evolved to the point

Tim Morten (production director): "Yeah, there's no precise formula, of course. There's a delicate balance in recognizing the huge players we have--as you may know, we just released a new version of WoTLK Gold 1, and many gamers are still playing the game, which is now nearly two decades old. This year will be the 20th anniversary. Therefore, we need to take care of the player base. Additionally, Starcraft II has had this very stable player base, which we'd like to serve also.

"I think that the game industry as a whole has evolved to the point where we continue to serve gamers for longer on one title and let players get lost within the global. From a development standpoint this gives us a chance to test and improve the user experience - add fresh content, or add new features. We don't have a definitive date for transition however, we do know that we've got a committed audience that we wish to keep providing content."

World of Warcraft

John Hight (production director): "I think we've been blessed to have loyal fans for thirteen years. There is always new content coming out, and it's been quite a radical development of the game. We'll be able to play this game very soon in the future when we have Classic being released however, you should look at the point we were in when we first launched WoW to the current state and where we'll be in the future with Battle for Azeroth.

"If you were to only look at those two points you'd think the following: Battle for Azeroth is the sequel. It's 'WoW 2.' The development has occurred over the last 13 years. The problem is that since it's been happening in fragments and fragments, I'm not sure whether people are aware of how changes have occurred. The perspective of the game as well as the resolution and the level of graphical fidelity that we've seen for the characters we have, every one have gone to high-resolution.
