In the first place, if you see a developer write a blog which is longer than 2,000 words, you know the shit has really hit the fan. It's a huge overview of all the problems facing D2R Items: Resurrected players this week, and it's vast because the issues aren't due to a single problem, but rather a combination of issues including a failure to manage the games popularity, its layout and structure, to the reality that players are better at crushing Diablo into dust in 2021.

The main issue that was outlined by the team is how players' character and information are stored. If you've played an Activision or Blizzard multiplayer game over the last few decades You'll be aware that players typically login to several servers that are in close proximity to your home as humanly possible. It's not a specific server per se however it is a collection of servers serving all of the region.

All of them have their own regional databases that house the information for the characters who play on them. This is needed because there's plenty of players enjoying Diablo 2 to just continually upload all the data of everyone's to a singlecentral location.

Regional databases frequently forward information back at intervals to the central database which means that Blizzard has a singular record (with backups) of your cheap diablo 2 resurrected items level 88 Barbarians, Necromancers, and other. It sounds good--until that central database gets overwhelmed and the whole system, like the engineers who work on it, need a rest.
